Bio: Yolei Yang is an account manager by day and a writer by night. She was born in St. Paul, MN and now resides in Austin, TX. In her spare time, she enjoys reading poetry, cooking up a storm, outlining creative projects and supporting local artists & small businesses. Once a year she travels to a place she's never been before.
What inspires your writing?:
Self-love, heartaches, inhumanity and empowerment are my biggest inspirations. Writing became a series of therapeutic excercises and essentially a positive coping mechanism. I gather and piece together imagery and feelings. Then I reorganize my thoughts into concise narratives. The art of storytelling has helped me overcome trauma, celebrate self-awareness and address important issues I care about.

What inspired your pieces?: These pieces reflect outstanding qualities of Hmong women throughout history: hardworking, adaptable and resilient. We continue to flourish in our environment and perfect our artistry. Inner strength awakens during challenging times and it's important to have a supportive community. Remind each other to use your voice to protect and fight for human rights.
